Boeing Unveils Phantom Ray Unmanned Aircraft

Cool Technology : Boeing Phantom Ray

Boeing recently unveiled (or disclosed, if you want to put it that way) their latest invention, the Phantom Ray. The Ray is a remote-controlled stealth aircraft that’s got some seriously impressive specs. Intended for “intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance,” the Phantom Ray is 36 feet from wingspan to wingspan, and the engine is buried deep within its innards to keep radar detectors guessing. Of course, the benefits of an aircraft without potential human loss are immense. They’re going to start trial testing for the plane this summer. Good thing the U.S. made it, right?

Possible Wii Vitality Sensor Announcement Coming May 17th

News : Will Vitality Sensor

It’s been about 9 months since we heard anything about the Wii Vitality Sensor, which as it happens is the incubation period for humans. Today, word hit that Nintendo has announced a press event with the American Heart Association on May 17th. The invite doesn’t indicate what the event will pertain to, but since the Wii Vitality sensor monitors heart rate it seems like a logical assumption.
We know very little about the device, with the exception that it will be designed to help the user relax after a long and stressful day of work. It will do this with a number of on screen queues while monitoring the wearers heart rate.

Google Stops Selling Nexus One Themselves, Increases Retail Presence

Phone : Google, Nexus One

Google’s smartphone, the Nexus One, was the company’s big public spearhead for their Android OS, or, as they put it, “a beacon of innovation” for Android headsets. Upon the launch of the phone in Janauary, Google surprisingly experimented with selling the phone themselves (they’re not a company that’s known for selling physical products). It seems the experiment was a failure, as Google announced on their blog today that they would discontinue selling the Nexus One themselves. As they put it,
"While the global adoption of the Android platform has exceeded our expectations, the web store has not. It’s remained a niche channel for early adopters, but it’s clear that many customers like a hands-on experience before buying a phone, and they also want a wide range of service plans to chose from."
The company says that they’re going to shift focus into putting the Nexus One into as many retail channels worldwide as possible. So that’s that. At least you tried something new, Google. And that’s what matters, right?

Is The PSP2 Being Announced At E3?

News : PSP2

The PSP hasn’t exactly been Sony’s pride and joy since its release back in 2005. Despite portable installments of their biggest franchises, like God of War, Sony hasn’t had much success with the device, even after churning out multiple revisions to the hardware. Which makes it interesting that site MCV has been tipped that two major publishers are significantly ramping up their marketing budgets for the PSP brand this upcoming holiday season (Q4). Last year’s PSP Go was a dud, so it doesn’t make sense that they’d put a ton of money into an ad campaign for it. All signs point to the PSP2, which would probably be an HD device that would be a direct competitor against Nintendo’s upcoming 3DS. If Sony is making the PSP2, then it will probably be announced at this year’s E3. So, are you excited yet?

Win-Stars 10 Port USB Hub

Gadgets : PC Gadget

Resembling a popular retro gaming console, the Win-Stars 10 Port USB Hub is a 2.0 backwards compatible hub with a data transfer rate of up to 480Mbps. Using a 5V/2A power adapter, the hub is capable of working with Microsoft Windows 98SE/ME/2000/XP/Vista and Mac OS X or later.
Available in the above pictured black and also in silver, the WinStars USB Hub has yet to receive a street date or a price. I like the design and it is attractive enough not to have to hide, though managing the cords coming out of it may be somewhat cumbersome.

Sharp Develops First 3D Camera For Mobile Devices

News : New Technology, Sharp

Sharp Corporation has developed a 3D camera module for mobile devices capable of capturing high-definition (720p*2) 3D video images, an industry first. Sharp will start shipping samples in July. Mass production of these modules will begin within 2010.
3D images are composed of two views taken using two cameras that simultaneously capture separate images for the right and left eyes. Consequently, a 3D camera requires peripheral circuitry to apply image processing to the two images, for example, to adjust color or to correct positioning between the images from the two cameras. Manufacturers have thus been pursuing designs that reduce the size and weight of 3D cameras and seeking ways to shorten their development period.
The current 3D camera module developed by Sharp incorporates functions to process the image data output by the left and right cameras, including Color Synchronizing Processing to adjust color and brightness, Timing Synchronizing Processing to synchronize the timing of the video signals, and Optical Axis Control Processing to correct positioning. In addition, Fast Readout Technology rapidly transfers video data from the image sensor, enabling 3D images to be captured in high-resolution HD mode. Further, in developing this camera module, Sharp applied high-density mounting technology nurtured over long years of experience in camera module development to achieve a compact form. Embedding this camera module in mobile devices such as digital cameras, mobile phones, and smartphones will contribute to the development of a wide range of new, innovative communications tools.
In the future, Sharp will be opening up new 3D markets based on 3D display technologies, including small/medium-size and large-size 3D LCDs, as well as on 3D input device technologies such as 3D camera modules.
*1 As of May 12, 2010, for camera modules used in mobile devices.
*2 720 effective scanning lines (progressive scanning system). Resolution: 1280 H x 720 V pixels
